Sound Acoustic Management (SAM)
- Awardee: Sam Bell
- Location: Whitehead
- Council: Carrickfergus
- Grant: £5,828.62
After being involved in taking noise measurements for over 20 years and recognising a niche in the market, Sam Bell took early retirement and set up Sound Acoustic Management (SAM). As one of a small number of noise & vibration consultants in Ireland, Sam was awarded a small grant to purchase equipment to enable his clients to comply with the new ‘Vibration at Work’ legislation and to invest in marketing.
SAM specialises in employee Health and Safety by measuring noise and vibration in the workplace and advising employers of acceptable exposure levels for their employees according to European Union and UK regulations.
The company also carries out industrial, construction and environmental noise impact assessments, including commercial entertainment ‘noise’ evaluations for pubs and clubs.
SAM also provides reports and expert witness for clients requiring major planning applications, Integrated Pollution Prevention Control (IPPC) licences, or legal representation in hearing loss cases.
The majority of Sam’s work is carried out in Ireland, however he has worked in the Middle East where he carried out an assessment of noise levels on an oil platform off the Libyan coast.
“The programme enabled me to expand our business capacity into hand/arm vibration measurement to meet new legislation and to raise our profile through advertising.”
